Leadership Committee

The Quiet Sound Leadership Committee will engage with the Quiet Sound Working Groups and other stakeholders to move forward with the program and ultimately reduce the impact of large commercial vessels on Southern Resident Killer Whales in Washington waters.

The Leadership Committee comprises: the Makah Tribe, the Marine Exchange of Puget Sound, Natural Resources Defense Council, NOAA Fisheries, Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission, Northwest Seaport Alliance, Pacific Merchant Shipping Association, Port of Seattle, Port of Tacoma, Puget Sound Partnership, Seattle Aquarium, Washington Maritime Blue, Washington State Ferries, the US Coast Guard (advisor).

Working Groups

Quiet Sound’s Leadership Committee is supported by an advisory group that provides the program with a diversity of expertise and perspectives in tribal treaty rights, whale sensing, underwater noise, and the maritime industry. Quiet Sound’s Adaptive Management program is co-chaired by NOAA and the Puget Sound Partnership.

Quiet Sound is a nonregulatory coalition whose goal is to better understand and reduce the cumulative effects of acoustic and physical disturbance from large commercial vessels (such as cargo, cruise, ferries, fish processors, tugs/barges) on Southern Resident Killer Whales throughout their range in Washington state.
