Rachel Aronson, Quiet Sound Program Director
Rachel Aronson leads the Quiet Sound Program. Rachel’s background is in natural resources multi-stakeholder facilitation. She brings experience in connecting with stakeholders to inform decisions about how to manage natural resources and develop effective, durable policy.
Sara Adams, Quiet Sound Program Manager
Sara Adams leads Quiet Sound’s Voluntary Vessel Operations portfolio, including the seasonal voluntary slowdown for large commercial vessels.
Gonzalo Banda-Cruz, Quiet Sound Program Manager
Gonzalo Banda-Cruz brings a wealth of knowledge to Quiet Sound from various professional experiences in various marine ecosystems.
Quiet Sound is a program of the nonprofit organization Washington Maritime Blue.
Leadership Committee
The Quiet Sound Leadership Committee will engage with the Quiet Sound Working Groups and other stakeholders to move forward with the program and ultimately reduce the impact of large commercial vessels on Southern Resident Killer Whales in Washington waters.
The Leadership Committee comprises: the Makah Tribe, the Marine Exchange of Puget Sound, Natural Resources Defense Council, NOAA Fisheries, Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission, Northwest Seaport Alliance, Pacific Merchant Shipping Association, Port of Seattle, Port of Tacoma, Puget Sound Partnership, Seattle Aquarium, Washington Maritime Blue, Washington State Ferries, the US Coast Guard (advisor).
Working Groups
Quiet Sound’s Leadership Committee is supported by an advisory group that provides the program with a diversity of expertise and perspectives in tribal treaty rights, whale sensing, underwater noise, and the maritime industry. Quiet Sound’s Adaptive Management program is co-chaired by NOAA and the Puget Sound Partnership.
